Inspection made and inquest attended. When they were descending in a hoppet attached to a lock-coiled rope the hoppit appeared to have struck a ventilating tube bearer where there was about twenty eight inches clearance which caused the two deceased persons to fall to the bottom of the shaft a distance of 80 yards and they were killed. The engineman stated he let them down steady. Guides were adopted afterwards for the further deepening of the shaft. 2 killed.
