Deceased was doing some repairs on a horse level in the Hardmine seam. A post 8ft. long was brought from the far end lying longitudinally across the first two loads of a journey of four. On arriving near to where Stubbs was working, the driver, without stopping the journey, rolled the post off on to the side of the road. By some means one end was caught between the third and fourth loads, and it was carried along in this manner, about 5ft. of it projecting out in the roadway. It struck Stubbs in the back, and caused injuries front which he died four days later. Died 21st January
