- 14 April 1922: Newmains – Colliery Fatality – Last Friday afternoon at fatal accident occur in the Drumgray seam of Bailliesmuir Colliery. About 1.30pm Thomas Allison, 55, miner, who resided at 39 Brown Street, Newmains, was at work when a stone fell from the roof and struck him on the head. Attention was immediately given to the injured man, who was examined by Dr Little. This examination revealed a fracture to the base of the skull. The unfortunate man was removed home, where he died about 5 o'clock the same day. [Hamilton Advertiser 15 April 1922]
