- Details of Event
- Deceased and three others had almost finished clearing up and re-roofing. a portion of the main haulage road in the Wigan Five Feet Seam, when a sudden fall of roof occurred which displaced several bars and buried Strickland. When liberated, about four hours afterwards, he did not appear to be seriously injured. He died, however, five days afterwards from his injuries. The place had been examined by the fireman several times during the shift and was considered to be well secured as the bars were only 12 inches apart and each was supported by three props.
