- Details of Event
- Died February 27. Deceased and other men were preparing a new landing 11 feet wide by 8 feet high in a stone drift through a nip out in the Yard Seam and had taken some stone down the master shifter was at the place about an hour before the accident happened when deceased jowled the stone which afterwards fell, in his presence and it sounded ‘drummy.’ It was arranged to put a balk in at the point, although the roof was generally so good that no balks were required for several yards on each side. The chargeman also subsequently examined the stone and found it not good but apprehended no immediate danger. While deceased was preparing to secure the place a blue metal stone, 6 feet by 5 feet by l.5 feet at extremes, fell from the side next the roof relived by a slip and caught him, breaking his arm and tearing the flesh from one of his legs and he never recovered from the effects of the shock.
