- Details of Event
- Deceased was taking out a journey of coal riding on the rope at the back end when a full tram end followed from the parting and crushed him to death. A haulier, without first seeing that the stop block was shut, took a sprag out of a tram and allowed it to run towards the outer end of the parting, and when he tried to resprag it failed to do so, and the train ran away. The accident was the result of the shackler’s neglect in not closing the stop block. The road dipped outwards about 1.5 ins per yard.
