- Details of Event
- 31 March 1938: Anthony Strain, aged 17, the eldest son of parents living at Bothwellhaugh, near Bellshill, became entangled in a belt and wheel operating the screening plant at the Palace Colliery of Bent Colliery Co., where he was employed. He was so badly injured that he died almost immediately. As a tribute to the unfortunate lad miners employed at the colliery did not go to work yesterday. [Scotsman 2 April 1938]
