A cage loaded with six full tubs was signalled and taken away from the Parkgate seam, it had hot gone far when a loud noise was heard in the shaft, and shortly afterwards the ascending cage fell into the sump in which there was some water, and, the flooring boards on which the deceased was standing were thus violently displaced. He was thrown down and received such injuries that he died on the 21st. It was found on all examination of the shaft being made that one of the rail guides had broken and allowed the ascending cage to get free and collide at meetings with the one which was descending, and the impact was so great that the winding rope of the ascending cage was broken.
