- Details of Event
- Deceased and his mate were repairing a buffer spring on a wagon in a blind end siding at the colliery. In order to have room to work, they lowered down the two wagons nearest to the cross for a short distance, and so slightly fouled the crossing. A shunter, wishing to bring a wagon of small coal up the No.4 siding off which the blind road is turned, attaching two horses to the wagon of small coal, and commenced pulling it up the straight road. There was not being sufficient clearance, the buffers collided, with the result that deceased was crushed between the second wagon on the repairer road and the third, upon which he was working. He died August 3rd.
