- Details of Event
- Deceased was seen to leave the inbye landing of a main-and-tail haulage road, with a 4-foot travelling way on one side, some minutes before a full set was started outbye. He was soon after found lying on the opposite side of the road 290 yards outbye, partly behind the last tub of a set of 40 tubs, with a fractured arm and ribs. The set had been stopped at this point, which is on a down gradient outbye of 2 inches to the yard, and in stopping the coupling in front of the last tub had broken, probably causing a violent jar to the rope. Deceased was not run over and it is presumed that he got knocked down by the lashing of the rope when the set was stopped. Probably he was riding on the rope behind the last tub and was thrown violently off. He died the following day.
