Two brushers fired a shot in the brushing, and when they returned to clear away the results of it they found the fireman lying dead under the displaced stone. They had not taken proper precaution to warn anyone travelling up the face from the road below, and, in consequence, Stitt had crawled up the face, and been directly under the shot when it exploded.
