- Details of Event
- Roof fall. On Monday afternoon (8 November 1915) an accident occurred in No.3 Pit, Polmaise Colliery, Fallin, resulting in the death of Peter Stewart, a Pit Contractor, who resided at Brucefield Place, St Ninians. Stewart had been working in a stone mine when a large stone, weighing over a ton, came away and falling on him, killed him instantaneously. Deceased who was 36 years of age leaves a widow and three young children. Mr Stewart was a member of the Baptist Church and one of the well known trio of singers known as the Stewart Brothers, who for a number of years, have taken an active part in evangelistic work in the District. They belonged to BelIshill and are equally as well known in Lanarkshire as in Stirling. Deceased took the leading part in the trios and the singing of the brothers was always a source of pleasure at the various meetings they attended. His death will be much regretted in many circles.
