- Details of Event
- 63 Elm Road, Paulton was killed by a roof fall nearly 1000 feet below ground. The dead man was Mr Frederick Dennis Bridges. He was married with one daughter and had been a miner since he left school. The fall of rock which killed him was an isolated one at lo 8 face where Mr Bridges was working with a team of twelve. He was buried ln the fall and his workmates released him and carried him on a stretcher to the shaft. Waiting at the top were mine officials and Dr R.T. Michael who examined Mr Bridges but he was dead. Afterwards the fall was cleared and the roof shored up. The seam was not closed and normal working is going on today. A colliery spokesman said Mr Bridges was a flrst class miner and a popular man. It is a great tragedy. (Bristol Evening Post)
