- When holing or patching on the top of the coal a large stone fell from the roof. Both he and the fireman misjudged or neglected to take measures to secure the roof. It is sometimes attempted to argue that when patching or holing over the top in this way it is impossible to secure the roof but this is not so as it can be done if even some little extra trouble is necessary it should be insisted upon.
