- 28 February 1918: James Stein, a young married miner, who resided at Bridgend, Linlithgow, was fatally injured by a fall from the roof in one of the mines of James Ross & Co., Philpstoun Oilworks. A younger brother, John Stein, was severely injured by the same fall. [Scotsman 2 March 1918]
John Stein, the young Philpstoun miner who on Thursday was injured in a mine by a fall of stone from the roof, died on Friday night. An elder brother, James Paris Stein, was killed by the same fall. [Scotsman 4 March 1918]
