- Details of Event
- During the overlap of the lads' shifts (three hours) the deceased, with two other lads, was hewing coal in a wide bord, 12 yards in width, in a seam 2 feet thick in the limestone series, having a roof of sandy limestone usually of a remarkably good character, when a stone, 9 feet long, 4 feet 6 inches wide, tapering to a point at the other end, and 12 inches thick, came away at a slip close to the face. One prop had been set at the thick end of the stone, which was canted out. The presence of a slip was not suspected.
