He was getting coal in a seam 17 inches thick and approaching some old workings, when a piece of roof bind 5 feet 6 inches by 4 feet by 1 inch, weighing about 25 cwts fell upon him killing him instantly. No timber was displaced but the fall came from between two unforeseen slips. The statutory requirements as to timber were complied with.
