- Details of Event
- While they were laying pipes along the side of a main level a fall of roof occurred which partially buried both men. Before they could be released a second fall occurred which completely buried and killed them. The roof was wet and full of slips and was supported by girders set en legs. One girder was knocked down and two others forced out of position by the fall. The fall was probably due to a sudden weight coming on from longwall workings in the vicinity. The workings were separated from the main level by a pillar of coal 30 yards wide. A large pillar should have been left or else the coal should have been completely worked out. 2 killed.
