After helping a driver to lift a derailed full tub upon the rails, he took the whip and drove the horse towards the top of a jig. He undoubtedly drove too quickly, and the tail chain became very slack. In stopping to get hold of the chain, he slipped upon the rail and fell in front of the train; the tail chain got around his neck and strangled him.
