- Details of Event
- Deceased was working in a Thick Coal opening, at the front of which the Stone coal formed the roof, which was being stepped upwards by successive measures to the centre of the opening. Whilst waiting for some powder to finish charging a hole, deceased stood looking up into the opening, when a piece of the "Brazils" coal fell suddenly and caught him, fracturing his neck. The coal which fell was 12 feet long by 8 feet wide by 18 inches thick, and it came off at a slip which could not be detected before the fall.
