- Details of Event
- Deceased was engaged in getting clay close to the bottom of an incline. The engineman attached an empty tub to the rope and pushed it over the brow of the incline. He turned to go into the engine-house when he heard the tub running away. A link had broken at a defective weld and the empty tub ran away down the incline, a distance of 191 feet. Three other men ran clear, but deceased was struck by the tub and died from his injuries. The link had been examined 2.5 hours previously.
