- 29 October 1931: Man Killed In Shale Mine - Yesterday morning a young man named Henry Sneddon, who resided at Kirkhill Road, Broxburn, was killed by a fall of shale from the roof while engaged in repair work in No.35 mine, near Broxburn, belonging to Young's Oil Company. The unfortunate man had only restarted work on Wednesday after a two months' illness. He was treasurer of Broxburn West Church, secretary of Strathvrock Royal Arch Chapter, and a man highly respected in the town. He leaves a widow and one child. [Scotsman 30 October 1931]
