Details of Event
The road on which this accident occurred was worked by an endless haulage rope. The tubs were arranged in sets of about 30 and a lad travelled with each set. A double set of rails was laid for the greater part of the length of the road, but at the in-bye end there are lengths of single road and pass-byes. The deceased on his way out-bye found the pass-bye at the end of the engine plane blocked with full and empty tubs and, although warned by the boy in charge, went between the side of the road and the empty tubs. Before attaching a set of tubs to the rope the boy again shouted to the deceased and concluded that lie was out of the way. As soon as the tubs started there was a check and the clip slipped and the boy thinking the tubs had struck a prop took the clip off the rope and then heard the deceased and his mate shouting. On going along the road he found the deceased crushed between the tubs and a prop. He was got out as quickly as possible but died shortly after reaching the hospital at Rotherham.
