- Details of Event
- Deceased was hewing at the face of a skirting in the Hutton seam, where he had bored into an old bord when a rectangular block of stone 6 feet long, 4 feet wide, and half a yard thick fell from the roof on to him. The store fell from regular straight joints reeling a set of gears set as nearly as possible along its longer axis. One corner was close to the coal, and it is probable that when the coal was removed at that point the block became top heavy and overbalanced and fell. It gave no warning whatever.
