- Details of Event
- He was engaged undercutting a length of coal which he had holed to a depth of 28 inches. He had cut back to a natural ‘cleat’ in the coal when a slight weight came on, and the coal parted at the cleat. A piece of coal 9 feet long fell on deceased and fractured his skull. The undercut coal was supported by sprags set 5 feet apart. One was displaced by the fall. ‘Cockermegs’ should have been used instead of face sprags.
