Deceased had descended the shaft in the cage to the Yard Coal mouthing. On getting out of the cage, he appears to have mistaken the side on which he got out, and turning to the right, with the intention of going through the passbye, he walked into the shaft. The entrance was fenced by two chains, and deceased slipped either between them or to-the bottom of the shaft, a distance of 126 yards. He was instantly killed.
