- Run over by hutches. A St Ninians Miner has succumbed in Stirling Royal Infirmary to injuries sustained when at work in No.3 Pit, Polmaise Colliery, Fallin on Saturday (8 August 1936). Francis Smith (58), Haulageman, 142 Main Street, St Ninians, was walking up the brae in the South Dook Section when it is believed he slipped on the rails. A rake of hutches, which were being drawn to the top, struck him on the thigh and he received a badly lacerated wound. After receiving medical attention at the Pithead he was removed to the Infirmary, where he has since died. (Stirling Journal).
