Deceased was raising by means of a steam crab a rope in the shaft when his neck muffler got twisted round the intermediate shaft and strangled him. He must have been leaning over the revolving shaft. The mechanic who was watching the rope coiling on the opposite side of the drum ran and shut off steam as soon as he became aware of the accident but too late to save him.
