12 July 1936: DUNFERMLINE MINER KILLED - CAUGHT BY FALL FROM ROOF OF PIT - A Dunfermline miner was killed while at work at Blairhall. He was Matthew Smart, about 40 years of age, residing at 216 Townhill Road, Dunfermline. Smart was about to begin work in the Lady Veronica Pit when there was a sudden fall from the roof, which crushed him to the ground. When workmates rushed to him he was found to be beyond aid.
