He was engaged in cleaning the sump boards at the shaft bottom when the cage was lowered on to him and fatally crushed him. All the evidence was to the effect that the cage had been under the control of the banksman, and therefore deceased should not have gone en to the sump boards. Half an hour had elapsed since the cage was rung up by the banksman, and under such circumstances a signal should have been exchanged with the bottom before the cage was lowered again.
