Deceased, who was an experienced iron ore miner but had only worked at this mine for three weeks was one of a gang of ten iron ore miners who had taken a contract. Only one of the gang had had experience in slate mines. A chamber 16 feet high by 18 feet wide bad been opened out 70 yards from the entrance of a level 6 feet square the level face being 10 yards further in. A shot was fired in the chamber some distance from where the fall took place about an hour before the accident the deceased and his mate and after it the roof and sides were sounded and considered safe but several tons of stuff fell from the level side opposite the chamber and killed deceased.
