He and another man were descending the shaft with some timber and had their lamps with them, but they were not lighted. When the cage got to the 160 fathom level the deceased was found to be missing, and on a search being made he was found two fathoms below the 100 fathoms level severely injured about his legs and other part of the body and died the same day. It is probable he fainted and fell out of the cage.
