He was engaged along with the owner of the quarry in working a piece of stone from the face when another stone unexpectedly came away. The owner, who was standing in a position of danger, jumped and was fortunate in getting clear, but deceased instead of remaining where he was, in a position of safety, also jumped, and his boot heel getting fast, he fell backwards and struck a stone with his head, fracturing his neck.
