He was at work in the bottom of the Quarry or Clay Pit not unlike a large Mine Shaft when a wooden shute 18 to 24 inches long which was being carried down by one of the men was allowed to fall and it pitching on some timber rebounded and struck him on the head causing injuries from which he died on the following day.
