- 10 August 1916: Fatal Accident to a Fife Miner – William Mearns Sinclair, 52, brusher, 14 Blairhall Cottages, East Grange, died in Dunfermline & West Fife Hospital yesterday from the effects of an accident which he received in the Coltness Iron Company's Blairhall Pit on the previous day. Fife Pit Accident Ends Fatally – An accident which has terminated fatally occurred in the Lady Veronica Pit, in West Fife, belonging to the Coltness Iron Company, Ltd. While William Mearns Sinclair (52) a brusher, residing at 14 Blairhall Cottage, East Grange was shovelling coal for the purpose of erecting a prop a stone weighing 3cwt. Fell upon him from the roof. The accident was caused through an unseen "lipe." His workmates at once removed the stone, but it was found that he had sustained severe internal injuries. He was taken to the Dunfermline and West Fife Hospital, where he died the following day. [Dundee Courier 11 August 1916]
