Deceased and his brother were at work on a ledge 6 to 9 feet broad and 33 feet below the quarry brow. They had descended by means of miles which they afterwards looped round their thighs, which was their usual custom. Deceased had apparently loosened himself from his rope for some purpose, or was rearranging it, when some rock fell from the face above him and pushed him over the ledge. He fell a distance of fully 40 feet and sustained injuries which resulted fatally in two days later.
