Details of Event
The deceased was preparing to blast a stone during the night shift about 3ft. above the rail level, on which a steam crane was working. The platform of the crane extended 8 feet beyond the rails when turned sideways, and is 4 feet from the ground. The crane holding an empty skip was running along the rails to the face of the quarry when the platform at the back caught deceased and crushed him against the stone, in which he was inserting a charge of explosives. Died the following day.
