- He was severely injured by a fall of clay from the face of the quarry. Consumption set in and he died on 16th May, 1911. The quarry was worked in two faces, the upper 13 feet, and the lower 9 feet in height. They were separated by a ledge only 6 to 8 feet wide. The fall came from the upper face. The ledge should have been at least as wide as the height of the face above it.
