Deceased had taken hold of the end of the chain attached to a hand crane and was pulling round the point of the jib when it suddenly broke about 2.5in. inside of the cast iron cap which carried the pulley at its upper end. Both jib and cap fell upon deceased causing injuries to which he died about four hours afterwards. The jib was of oak 6.75 ins in diameter at the point of fracture and appeared perfectly sound with the exception of the portion inside of the cap which was completely rotten.
