The collier had observed, when making his first examination of his working level, that, at a point 25 yards distant from his working face, the roof required additional support. This support was to prevent a shell from falling, as he considered that the made body of the roof was safe. Deceased had assisted to get one prop and was preparing a place for another one, while the collier was fetching the prop, when a large body of roof stone fell from a network of slips and crushed him.
