The stone which he was engaged in getting down fell on his head as he was in a stooping position clearing some stone from the rails to allow of a haulier passing out with his journey. The place and the work were apparently about the safest in the colliery, but the stone gave way suddenly from an unseen slip at the back and side, his work no doubt having shaken it.
