He was making an inspection, using a knee train. When travelling at a fairly high speed on a down gradient of 1 in 30 he ran into a full tub, which was being pushed by a boy, and was severely injured. No warning was given by either deceased or the trammer and the view was interrupted by a brattice sheet. He died on 24th December.
