- Details of Event
- He was sent by an official to remove some small falls of stone on a road, and while doing so a fall occurred from the roof and side at a slip, which caught and fractured his leg. He was got out and taken home, where he progressed satisfactorily until the 13th of June, when he, with the permission of his doctor, got out of bed and, with assistance, put on his clothes. He then attempted to get to the top of the stairs when be fainted and died. A post-mortem examination showed his heart to be in a very bad condition, and that death was due to syncope. The doctor was of opinion that death was accelerated by lying in bed for three weeks and suddenly getting into an upright position, and that the condition his heart was in would predispose him to an attack of syncope.
