Deceased and his mate were about to get coal after filling a tub. Without any warning an area of roof at the gate end 14 feet by 7 feet came down, killing Shaw and injuring his mate. The place was approaching an old goaf and the face line was almost parallel to the goaf line. Two bars and four props supporting them were displaced. The timbering rule was not exceeded and the place had been examined by a deputy three hours before and reported safe.
