He was getting coal from off the side of a road. The work had almost been completed, the coal had been taken off to a depth of 1 foot 6 inches, when a piece of the overhanging side stone, measuring nearly 8 ft. in length, and weighing over a ton, fell away from a slip and killed Braithwaite instantly. The side stone was not spragged.
