- Details of Event
- His duty was to couple the tubs, coming the shaft, together to make up trains of 24 tubs. The tubs were coupled in two and sent forward to him down a slight incline. He steadied the tubs with two lockers and occasionally, if the tubs came too quickly for him, by placing a piece of wood called a ‘dick’ across the rails. He was found crushed between a tub full wedges and a brick wall at a curve. No one saw the accident but it is surmised the tub of wedges being heavier was coming more quickly than empty one and he put the dick in front of one wheel and this caused it to run off the rails.
