- 19 August 1916: Fatal accident at Polmaise Colliery - On Saturday forenoon, James Scobie (67), pithead worker, residing at Weaver Row, Stirling, was found lying on the ground beside an engine-house at No.1 and 2 Pits, Polmaise colliery, near Stirling. He was found to be suffering from a dislocated shoulder and shock, and he was removed to Stirling Royal Infirmary, where he died shortly after admission. It is surmised that Scobie had received his injuries by falling from a scaffolding. [Scotsman 21 August 1916]
