A shot had to be fired in the side of a haulage dip. The shotman sent deceased up the dip to prevent anyone from passing he himself went down the dip, shouted ‘Fire,’ received the same answer from deceased, connected his cuble to the battery, and fired the shot. Deceased was found terribly injured under the fall produced by the shot. Deceased had connected the fuse wires to the cable and there is no doubt that there was a misunderstanding between him and the shotman as to the signals. This misunderstanding was not cleared up at the inquest. He died on Sept. 9th.
