His hip was bruised by a piece of stone falling upon him on April 14th. He was off work until May 10th. He then worked regularly until August 27th. On the day following, he was admitted to the Hartlepool Hospital where an operation for appendicitis was performed. He died on August 31st at midnight. Death was said to be accelerated by the accident he had received on April 14th.
