- Details of Event
- He and others were engaged filling trams on the haulage road, and having filled six, turned four empties over on the side to allow of the journey passing. It came along and picked up the full trams, and then some of the empties in the journey got off the rails, whether in consequence of some rubbish having fallen on them or not is unknown. One of them caught against one of those turned over and knocked out a post set for carrying the signal wire. Deceased who, with others, was in a roomy manhole, appears to have taken fright, and going out of it was crushed between the corner of the manhole and the upturned tram. Had he remained in the manhole he would have been quite safe. (Mechanical haulage.).
